I was born in the late 70's and I like to play computer games. I'm finding as I get older I don't have patience for flame wars, forums users or fan boys. Just go away and let me play games!
In which a fool and his system are soon parted...

As we all know, a lot of communication on the Internet is rubbish; people simply don't take the time to moderate their own language, grammar or spelling.  Most of the time this problem is caused by the author being caught up in the moment, they're so keen on getting their “oh so important” comment out there for everyone to read that they trip over themselves typing it up.  A good example of this is stream-of-consciousness writing, where the author rambles from one point to the next without stopping for a breath.

So this doesn't happen to you I advise you take the stance of imagining that you're physically standing in front of someone and saying exactly what you're going to type.

Let's take a comment that I saw on Shacknews.com today in regards to the new Bioware game, Dragon Age.

"Is this game going to be anything like that piece of crap Ass Effect?"

Lets forget for the moment that the person who made the comment is probably 14 and hasn't figured out these weird feelings he gets in his pants when he sees the K-mart catalogue.  Would you stand in front of a developer from Bioware and say this?

No, you wouldn't, despite the amount of Internet tough guy bravado that you post saying you would.

So why are you posting it on the Internet then?

There's a scene in the movie "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" where they track down everyone who wrote something negative about them on the Internet and beat them up.

If only this was true.

Yes.... because of the converse....I'd ONLY say things in a net forum that I would say face to face.

The reality is.....where I'm concerned....if you read a comment from me that 'You are an arse' ....you can be quite assured I would be equally happy to say exactly that whilst at [your] arm's reach.

There is [or should be] no difference in how you treat/respect/respond/revile your fellow man.

Except one.

Do it here [on a Stardock Forum] and it WILL be overseen by site Administrators/moderators and be subject to censure if warranted....

Kinda like when some asshat says something stupid and then some double ass hat has to blog about it.

Depends on which Stardock forum you are posting from. Some of the gamers openly indulge in personal attacks and abuse at a level which would get them removed from WinCustomize...

Quite an eye opener

Jafo, Fuzzy...correct.

The OP is correct in the imaging technique recommended. The only problem I see is gigo....i.e. if the guy's a turkey to begin with, no recommendation's gonna help much, and if he isn't...well, no help needed.

It's all rather pointless anyway....a boor is a boor, and not much will ever change....

Yes, it is a bit that way....but generally it's a different culture [age group] and as with JU the reins are a wee bit looser...

Ouch!  I have been shown the light by your wondrous contribution.  Clearly we are in the presense of a superior mind and can do nothing but prostrate ourselves before you.

By your own admission your complaining about me complaining about someone complaining is redundant, you could have saved yourself the time and not complained.

I agree with what he says, but if he is going to chide people for mistakes in grammar he should correct his own text prior to posting.

The consistency of youth. Most will talk while the brain is looking the other way. Lack of respect and ignorance of societal norms is responsible for the most part. Perhaps if they could see themselves in the light of other eyes such things would not occur. But alas this is fultile. So made because few if any can see the forest for the trees.

Well whaddya know...I'm a philosopher...not.

Didn't you put him behind the bars?

LolZ whats the point there. Gamers say their mind out because they become action-packed playing the game. They want to kill the dragon. Unless they kill dragon they will continue killing our sentiments with their words. The more difficult is the game more action-packed their words. Seems its the frustation of not completing the level that speaks for them with their words.

We are from different cultures. Unless a person says you abusive words you can't say that he is wrong. We should respect each-other's cultures otherwise there is no point being human. We can't blame anyone if we fail to communicate with him/her.

I have never seen anyone here using abusive words so I wonder if the post here has any utility?

There is no such thing as a "Foolproof System" Fools are constantly evolving and as soon as a system is developed,a new kind of fool comes along. There's no way to stay far enough ahead of the fools to make it work.

Gahh! I missed "the moment"! dammit and i just wanted to ramble a bit... ....I do think WC is rather well looked after and we seldom get alot of asses here compared to other places ive been.

No....that's idiots.....just when you make something idiot-proof....someone comes up with a bigger and better idiot....

on May 05, 2009

The only place I see idiots and find myself to be and idiot is Yahoo Chatrooms. They are always thumping chat window with obnoxious comments and spam links. idiots

When I ask anyone 'plz chat' they ask if I am a 'girl'. I say 'no' and they are away. A great idiot lives within me too.

I have not seen any idiot talks at any forum. I visit wincustomize, winmatrix, thinkdigit, cnet, blitzbasic and gamedev.net frequently.

The only difference I see here is there we get responses pretty early as compared to other forums so its wise to ask questions here. And people are a bit more friendly and co-operative.

Actually, fools are the one things that never evolve. They always remain the same. They manage to completely misunderstand anything thrown at them. If something is fool-proof and some fools actually manage to use it, there's something right about the fools, not about the object in question. There's always a fool around to spoil the fool-proof.
